Heroes of the Storm Could Use Some More Heroes to Help Balance

Heroes of the Storm has been in Alpha test mode for quite a few months now. During the time I have had access, I have seen several new characters added, such as Reghar, Anub'arak, Azmodan, & Jaina. Blizzard has also announced that there will be several new battlefields, which I cannot wait to see added. However, as the game stands there are quite a few characters who could benefit the game if added.

I've also noticed that there is a definite balance issue when it comes to matchmaking teams. There have been more than enough matches for me, where one team gets two support characters and the other none. This makes it nearly impossible for the team without support to get a kill. This causes the team to turn on each other, blaming everyone for not getting a kill and inevitably someone types "GG" and gives up or just rage quits. When Lili and Malfurion are constantly healing their allies, I've seen games end within 10 minutes. This makes the game not very fun while you are being pummeled in-game and by your teammates with insults. With that said maybe adding more characters will help this, especially if there are more support characters. Though simply adding more support characters will not solve the issue entirely, there needs to be something done with the matchmaking system. For now, however, here are a few suggestions for character additions.

1. Deckard Cain

The Horadrim are gone, so you become a storyteller to fill the emptiness. But the people of Tristram are laughing at you. Look around you, Mother! Where are your angels, your demons? Where are your heroes? The Horadrim are long dead, and the town's no different for it!" -Cain to his mother

This Horadric scholar is well versed in obscure lore and history of the arcane. As funny as it sounds to add this old man as a playable hero, he would make an excellent support character. I envision he would support not only by healing, but also with his famous tagline "Stay a while and listen" used as an ensnarement type ability. This would be in-line with Blizzard's style of poking fun at themselves. With his knowledge, his passive ability could give teammates 10% more powerful abilities or basic attacks, making him very valuable in team fights. There are many talents that Deckard Cain could bring to the Nexus. I'd personally love to see something a little different than other support character abilities, like maybe his knowledge giving teammates an experience buff or the ability to craft healing potions that are given to teammates in their secondary talents. (i.e. the 1-5 buttons)

2. Arcturus Mengsk

"Arcturus Mengsk. There's a name that is synonymous with terror, betrayal and violence. A living example of the ends justifying the means. The assassin of the Confederacy of Man. The hero of the blasted world of Korhal IV. King of the universe. A savage barbarian who never let anything or anyone get in his way. And yet, he is charming, erudite and intelligent. When you're in his presence you feel that he's really listening to you, that your opinions matter, that you're someone important if you agree with him" - Michael Liberty (StarCraft 2 News Reporter)

As the Emperor of the Terran Dominion, Arcturus is the most powerful man in the Starcraft Galaxy. His abilities could fall into many categories, in my mind. I imagine him as a hybrid between assassin and support. Being able to rally troops (give a buff to teammates) or call down a Medivac ship to get a teammate out of danger quickly, could be ideal support abilities. As well as, calling on a Battlecruiser to blast their Yamato gun at the enemy or a team of reapers to fly over the enemies gates. There are many way this hero could be tweaked, but the fact is, he is an imposing character who would be a great addition to the game.

3. Gul'Dan

Indebted to a demonic lord and pitted against the mentor he betrayed, Gul'dan is one of a handful of fel orcs on Draenor, his visage and shamanic power twisted balefully by demonic communion. The outcasts he leads, the Stormreaver clan, now fight to wrest their "rightful" place in the Iron Horde from Gul'dan's former master Ner'zhul . . . and to tempt a great army of orcs into infernal corruption. - Blizzard description

A powerful Orcish Warlock, Gul'dan has magical powers he has learned from years of tutelage from the demon-lord Kil'jaeden, as well as the lord of the Burning Legion. He is a skilled Necromancer, who along with his Death-Knights, would be an excellent addition to your team. Again, I imagine him as as a support and assassin mix class. Able to use his powers of necromancy to bring a character back to life within seconds of death on the battlefield, would bring an interesting dynamic to the support side of the game mechanics. Being a Necromancer would also lend him the ability to summon the dead to distract and attack his foes, while he remains at a safe distance.

4. The Butcher

"The truth about the Butcher demon was more startling than I ever anticipated. Evidently, there are many of them within the Burning Hells, though they used to be solely under Diablo's command. The butchers are stitched together from the parts of other demons to combine their strengths, then given life through wicked magic." -Deckard Cain

"Ahh, fresh meat!" The Butcher first appears in the original Diablo, as an infamous boss, residing in a room filled with the mutilated corpses of the villagers of Tristram. He carries two unique weapons, "The Butchers Carver" and "The Butchers Sickle", which are able to rend low level adversaries quickly into ground meat (pun intended) and utilizes his sickle to drag foes back into the action or more likely their death. This sickle would function similarly to Sonya's ancient spear or Stitches hook. Being the aggressive character he is in Diablo, I imagine The Butcher to be a warrior class hero with a couple support options. He is able to cast rage onto his teammate and minions, but also he would bring his power of the fire grates, as pictured above, to roast enemies on the battlefield.
